Okashi Houston Japanese Arcade
About
Okashi Japanese Arcade in Pearland is a standout gem in the Houston area. This style of arcade is a rarity offering a glimpse into the kinds of small niche arcades that dot the streets of Japan's dense urban centers. It's located in typical Houston shopping center with plenty of parking available so it's easy to get in and out. What makes Okashi special though, is the unique selection of over 25 imported games you won’t find at your average arcade.
This place is a love letter to Japanese gaming culture, from the rhythm-heavy lineup like beatmania IIDX and Taiko no Tatsujin to fighting games like Tekken 7 and Street Fighter III. The UFO Catchers and Gachapon machines add that extra are a staple of Japanese arcades, giving you the chance to snag a fun little prize to remember the occasion. Beyond the games, they’ve got Japanese snacks and anime collectibles for sale. Some of their games even offer a Network play features (think score saving and multiplayer modes) to keep things competitive and fresh. At $20 for freeplay (or $10 on some Sundays), it’s a steal for the unique experience. If you’re into arcades or a fan of Japanese pop culture, Okashi’s worth the trip — it’s a rare treat that delivers on both authenticity and fun.
VGH Note:
For those who may have visited Okashi in the past but haven't for a while, they were in downtown Houston for a period of time, relocating to Pearland in the summer of 2024. Information on their website is limited, but it does look like they updated their Facebook and Instagram pages somewhat regularly to post about upcoming events.
